A live-in carer job is one of the most rewarding careers and we are celebrating our amazing team throughout July.
The Good Care Campaign celebrates all those working in care and the wonderful job they do to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Launched in 2018 by Hertfordshire Care Provider’s Association, The Good Care Campaign runs every July to showcase the amazing job carers do to support communities everywhere.
Carers are often the unsung heroes of healthcare and as the UK’s leading live in care agency, KP Live-In Services will be celebrating our staff and showcasing the #GoodCare they provide all month.
Why Choose A Live-In Care Assistant Job?
Building a unique relationship with the person or people you care for is only one reason to consider a career as a live-in care assistant.
Different to homecare, which is when carers attend a client’s home at set times to assist with specific needs, a live-in carer stays in the client’s home to provide care for them throughout the day and night, as and when needed.
Both types of care offer a rewarding and progressive career.
As a live-in care assistant, you will enjoy:
• A flexible job that can fit around your life, with you having a say in the length of your assignment and the time you take off between jobs
• Making a real and meaningful difference to someone’s life
• Professional and nationally recognised qualifications and training
• A varied and different career with no two days the same
• Working with your clients in their own home to really do your job to the best level
• A high demand for qualified, professional live in carers throughout the UK
What Do Our Carers Think About Their Private Live In Care Jobs?
Because there is nobody better to explain just why care is such a great career choice than those already doing it, we caught up with some of our fabulous KP Live-In Service carers to explain why they love what they do.
Carer A started to work as a carer back in July 2015 in Berkshire.
“I would like to believe that my actions are making a positive difference. I want to support people,” she said.
“Every day can be different and it depends on the client and their needs. I think routine is essential for both of us, me and the client, to keep us on track mentally and physically to help make our days more positive.
“The most rewarding thing, I think, is the satisfaction of helping those who can feel helpless, to make a difference in their life.”
When asked if she would recommend a career in care to others, A said she would.
“It is so rewarding. It can be demanding but being a carer is truly the most fulfilling thing you'll do.”
Carer B started working in care back in 2010, when she was drawn to the opportunity of being a “help to humanity”.
“There is no such thing as a usual day as a carer, every day is different,” she said.
“The most rewarding part of my job is me knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life and that difference could not have been achieved without my assistance.”
Like A, B would also recommend a career in care to others.
Carer C has been working in care 15 years ago, when she came to the UK to study.
“I was studying health and social care and during the course, we also had to do practical training,” she said. “Slowly I started working in care and completed my NVQ Level 2 and Level 3.”
C agrees with her colleagues that no day working in care is the same and would definitely recommend it as a career.
“It can be unpredictable but looking after people is so rewarding. Caring for people is like my hobby. Putting a smile on their faces, that is what matters.”
Want To Find Our More About A Live-In Carer job?
Carer D was 43 when she started working in care, back in 2013.
While it was initially the salary and the chance to live and work in the UK that attracted her to the role, she has always enjoyed helping people and has gone on to make a long career from it.
“As a live in carer, for me every day is the same as far as the daily routine, which does not change. It needs to be like this, as a good daily routine gives the feeling of security to the client as well as to the carer.
“There is also a weekly rhythm, for example, the physio comes every Tuesday, the children visit their parents every Friday etc. But basically, our work is the same every day.”
The most rewarding part of D’s job is the feeling she is able to really help the person and their family.
“I can look after them properly, make them happy and calm, enable them to enjoy their retired life as well as possible,” she added.
“I enjoy conversations with nice and wise elderly ladies and gentlemen, one can learn a lot. Sometimes I really enjoy keeping a household like a second Mrs. Hughes from Downton Abbey, although with modern household devices instead of servants. Not always, only when I do it alone.”
D said she would definitely recommend a career in care but also says it is not for everybody.
“One has to be patient, happy, open-minded, ready to work a lot and be healthy and strong, physically and mentally,” she added.
“One must care for the well-being of others, whether clients, family members or colleagues etc. and we need to look after ourselves as well.
“Last but not least, one must need to be firm enough, if necessary, on the client's best interests.”
